Avy Skolnik, Ph.D.

Dr. Skolnik is a licensed psychologist, clinical supervisor, and consultant working at Hampshire College and in independent practice.  Dr. Skolnik has been providing training on issues impacting transgender communities for over twenty years and has trained thousands of individuals and organizations across the United States.  Audiences have included staff at shelters and other community-based organizations; students; teachers and administrators in middle, high school, and college settings; law enforcement; government officials; and healthcare providers in VA, military, hospital, community, and university settings.


As a researcher, Dr. Skolnik has focused primarily on improving access to healthcare, with an emphasis on the role of stereotype threat and implicit bias in healthcare inequities for transgender communities. He has authored several academic papers and presented his research at numerous grand rounds and academic conferences.  His work has supported initiatives leading to the development of gender identity-inclusive anti-discrimination policies and procedures within multiple shelters and hospitals throughout Denver, New York City, and Boston.
