Neuropsychological Assessment and the Aging Brain in Geriatric Population
The presentation provides a comprehensive overview of neuropsychological assessment in the context of geriatric populations. It covers topics such as normal aging and distinguishing it from cognitive impairments, vascular-related cognitive decline, Alzheimer's disease pathology, and the assessment process itself. The importance of normative data, special considerations for geriatric individuals, and involving family members in the assessment process are also discussed. Additionally, the presentation explores the application of neuropsychological assessment in functional domains and highlights the ethical and legal considerations associated with using assessment results. It concludes by emphasizing the role of neuropsychological assessment in understanding cognitive changes in aging and if time allows, we will discuss ongoing research projects to help improve the evaluation process.
